Fellowship Structure: Two Distinct Streams
The Research Ireland Enterprise Fellowship offers two pathways, each designed to support specific researcher profiles and collaboration formats:
1. Placement Stream
- Eligible applicants: Academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, and late-stage PhD students
- Research base: Hosted within an enterprise or industry setting
- Formerly known as: Industry RD&I Fellowship
- Focus: Immersive industry-based research experience
2. Partnership Stream
- Eligible applicants: Postdoctoral researchers and late-stage PhD candidates
- Research base: Hosted within a higher education institution (HEI), in partnership with an enterprise
- Formerly known as: Enterprise Partnership Scheme (Postdoctoral)
- Focus: Joint academic-enterprise research with academic supervision
Both streams require meaningful involvement of a qualified enterprise partner, which can include large corporations, SMEs, charities, or nonprofit organizations. Where relevant, public sector entities may also participate.
